The ilioinguinal nerve was replaced in its anatomical position after the field was irrigated and checked for hemostasis.

The external oblique was closed loosely with 4-0 absorbable suture. Scarpas was approximated with the same material and the skin was stapled.

Note: Sliding hernias can involve cecum on the right, sigmoid on the left and bladder on either side. Rarely, an abdominal counter-incision may be necessary to fully mobilize the bowel.
