A　Brief Introduction
　　 of Our University

Hebei Medical University is located in Shijiazhuang, Hebei Province, North China Plain. It consists of the original Hebei Medical College, Hebei Provincial College of Traditional　Medicine and

Shijiazhuang Medical College, which were combined in 1995. Of them the original Hebei Medical College was established the earliest and grew out of the Hebei Medical School which was set up in 1915. The original Hebei Provincial College of Traditional Medicine and Shijiazhuang Medical College were established in 1958, with a history of about forty years.
After eighty years development and evolution, Hebei Medical University has become a comprehensive medical university composed of western medicine, traditional medicine, pharmacy and other subjects. It has 14 colleges, and 15 specialities. The university has Basic Medicine, Clinical Medicine and Integrated Traditional and Western Medicine Postdoctoral Research Institutions. It has been authorized in conferring Ph.D. degree in 14 and master degree in 47 specialities. There are 9781 full-time students in school, 6728 adult students, and nearly 50 foreign students from South Korea and Japan and so on. Now it has been qualified to enroll students from Taiwan, Hongkong and Macao.
Hebei Medical University has a body of high quality teaching staff. The total number is over 7100, of which 266 are professors, senior researchers and chief physicians, 767 are associate professors. There are 2197 staff and workers in schools, of whom 867 are full-time teachers which including 155 professors and 398 associate professors. A group of experts and professors of great attainments are well-known within the province and even the whole country, 18 excellent experts at the provincial level, 16 outstanding young experts at the provincial or national level, 25 excellent teachers at the provincial or national level, and nearly 40 have taken the positions of the standing or committee members of the national specialties associations.
Hebei Medical University possesses better conditions for running schools. It occupies a total space of 1123 mu, with 730,000 square meters of floorspace. The total value of its instruments and facilities is 147,000,000 yuan, and the library contains over 540,000 volumes of books.
It has 6 affiliated hospitals, in which there are 3566 hospital beds. Four hospitals have been granted as “first-class hospitals in the third category”. In addition, it also has several teaching hospitals and practice bases providing students with good sites of clinical teaching, specialistic teaching and practice.
Hebei Medical University is not only the center of Hebei medical education and medical service, but also the center of Hebei medical research. It has 9 subjects and 4 laboratory of provincial advanced level, and 6 research institutes of provincial level. The Chinese Academy of Preventive Medical Science has set up its Hebei Academic Branch in this university. Each year nearly 200 projects of research are undertaken. In addition three national and eight provincial academic periodicals have been compiled and published here.
In the past few years, Hebei Medical University has become an important window of cultural and economic exchanges with the world. It has established closer cooperation with about ten medical colleges and research institutes of Japan, South Korea , America and Francesuccessively. 24 foreign experts have been invited to take the honorary positions of this university. Over 400 experts and professors have been sent abroad to give lectures or attend international academic conferences. Nearly 100 young teachers are assiduously studying abroad for Ph.D. degree. Its cooperation with the domestic colleges and universities has grown increasingly.
At present, Hebei Medical University is turning on a new look and making great efforts to establish a superior comprehensive medical university with local characteristics to meet the needs of socialist construction.
